Job Description

Dollar Tree is seeking a full-time, in-house designer to join a highly creative and adaptable team, working on a wide variety of project types across various categories. In-House Designer is responsible for maintaining the quality, accuracy, and consistency of all private brands and packaging across multiple product categories. Creates and oversees packaging and product designs from concept to finished product. Works directly with merchandising, imports, and testing under the supervision of the Private Brand and Creative Design Manager.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the appearance of the packaging, including structure, graphics, photography/illustration, and typography to meet packaging objectives
  • Creative design and production work for all private brand packaging
  • Conceptualize, create and execute trend-right prints and repeat patterns, using corporate art, creating a cohesive assortment for apparel and home products
  • Collaborates with Creative Design Manager and merchants developing product art for seasonal selections
  • Conducts research of marketplace competitors as needed to ensure packaging and product artwork is on-trend
  • Communicates with merchants, imports, testing, and vendors to ensure packaging is accurate, market-driven, and meets all legal requirements
  • Provides clear and concise direction to vendors to assist them in applying in-house artwork to packaging and products
  • Reviews digital and print proofs for accuracy and quality
  • Ensures all packaging and product deadlines are met through use of the production schedule
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of packaging and design trends, procedures and process updates

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Graphic Design
  • Comfortable working in an Apple environment
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft word and Workfront
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Strong sense of design, color, trends and an understanding to the product development process
  • Highly creative, with a good sense of brand and logo development, color, typography, and layout
  • Effective written, verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when proofing packaging art layouts
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects at once, and work quickly to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, assist team members as needed, and freely share knowledge and expertise
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to ensure all deadlines are met

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in retail packaging and production
  • Experience with branding across multiple categories and products
  • Good illustration and photo-editing skills
  • Adobe Dimensions for electronic mock-ups
  • Strong knowledge of printing and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of packaging requirements/standards for US and Canada
  • Familiar with FDA, EPA, labeling requirements
