The Private Brands Creative Team is seeking a Head of Brand Development and Design with a track record of leading creative teams of designers, copywriters, print production and project managers to award-winning brand and packaging design systems. The ideal candidate inspires teammates and internal clients with vision and dedication to brand and packaging excellence, helps business organizations achieve business goals through world-class packaging and brand designs, and understands the complexity of running creative operations. In this role, you will lead the creative and project management teams in the development of creative assets across brand development, packaging, content, and marketing. You will also be responsible for leading annual operational and resource planning for the team, aligning with business stakeholders on key priorities, and delivering against operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a seasoned creative director with a strong CPG packaging design background and experience in creative operations. They should have extensive experience overseeing the messaging and visual identity of numerous, complex branding and packaging projects for top consumer-facing brands.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead strategic and complex design projects that present multidisciplinary challenges and span across multiple teams
- Manage internal and external creative resources to ensure work achieves project goals, meets the highest quality standards, and is delivered on time and within budget
- Present concepts and produced work to stakeholders and internal customers, including senior management, in person and via video/phone
- Scope projects and forecast resourcing needs with key stakeholders to prioritize and maximize resources, communicating needs and trade-offs when appropriate
- Identify opportunities to incorporate emerging marketing/branding trends and digital innovations into creative and marketing strategies
- Proactively work to solve problems on behalf of the team
- Mentor and develop in-house creative talent through design reviews, individual coaching, and ongoing learning opportunities
- Develop and strengthen brand assets, including style and usage guides, finalized to broad packaging systems in multiple and diverse categories
- Enhance the team knowledge of best design practices and trends in packaging and graphic design
- Understand and respond to testing metrics and performance data to define or adjust the direction of creative designs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating strong visual communication skills, brand visual identity and packaging systems, retail branding, product branding
- Strong typographic skills and impeccable eye for design details
- 12+ years of experience in brand and packaging design
- 7+ years of experience leading creative teams (designers, project managers, copywriters, print production) through strategy and execution
- Demonstrated results in leading teams to operational excellence and process improvement
- The ability to create digital and/or physical mockups
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Understanding the trends in packaging and brand visual systems
- Understanding customer purchase behaviors, and behavioral trends, product quality tiering, channel-driven retail segmentation
- Ability to drive channel-agnostic brand visual expression consistency
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Design Suite

- Experience with a world-class brand-focused design agency, consultancy, in-house design team • Portfolio demonstrating systematic brand, identity design scaling across multiple touchpoints, and seasonal, event, and/or brand campaigns across multiple touchpoints.
- Experience in photo art direction.
- Strong understanding of the creative process (from ideation through implementation and production best practices for print and digital mediums.
- Deep understanding of typography, design principles, trends and best practices across digital and print.
- Experience creating brand guidelines and familiarity with brand strategy and working from briefs.
- Ability to share ideas and feedback clearly and thoughtfully to teammates, business partners and stakeholders through presentations, writing, and visually.
