Do you have a graphic design leadership background and are looking for an opportunity to innovate, own and drive one of our Packaging Design teams to deliver beautiful designs?

You’ll lead, shape and drive the performance of the GM & Non-Ed design team. Additionally you’ll manage the creation of new processes for effective design delivery whilst identifying opportunities to improve through building strong internal relationships, and managing external partnerships with design agencies, vendors and licensed brands. 

About the role

Working within the Customer Marketing Department, the Asda Brand Design team is responsible for managing Own Brand packaging design from concept through to artwork sign off and post launch reviews in store.

As Design Manager for GM and Non Ed you’ll be responsible for managing the day to day business of the GM Design Team. Building close relationships with your team you’ll be responsible for strategic and creative input into the development of new brands; briefing design agencies; approving creative design and managing the upkeep of existing guidelines whilst supporting your team.

You’ll be required to influence a large number of stakeholders including internal trading, legal and planning teams, structural packaging and technical teams, as well as external suppliers, vendors, licence holders and artwork agency partners. You’ll be fundamental to the quality perception and success of George Home and Asda products, and for maintaining the consistency and creative excellence of our GM and Non Ed Brands.

Reporting into the Senior Manager for Packaging Design you’ll also be responsible for managing the budget of the Packaging Design, Print and POS Teams and monthly reporting to the Marketing Finance team. You’ll work closely with the Design Manager – Food & Seasonal to ensure sharing of best practices, resource, learning and development for the Design Specialists.

This is a new role so a real chance to shape the future for the GM Design Team.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Setting the strategic direction for world class creative design for new brands and/or brand relaunches
  • Attending weekly project meetings with key stakeholders to ensure milestones are hit and timings are protected
  • Allocation of work ensuring that all activity is delivered within capacity constraints 
  • Forecasting the Design Budget for all external design, photography and creative art direction for packaging
  • Design & Photography Agency Roster – including performance management, budgets, measures and reviews

About you

  • Proven track record in design/design management in GM, Non Ed and/or Food Design
  • Ability to manage complex, high volume and fast moving projects
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • A keen creative eye and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong strategic thinker, decision maker and influencer
  • Enjoys identifying opportunities to work smarter
  • An excellent communicator at all levels
