Job Summary

The Sr Manager Private Brand Sustainability QA will utilize product sustainability expertise and experience in leading sustainability programs with broad knowledge and familiarity with a diverse range of soft and hardline consumer products. to develop and implement strategic programs that will enhance the execution and confidence of sustainability-related claims initiatives for the Lowe’s Private Brand portfolio (as part of the Global Merchandising organization). This role serves as the primary sustainability point of contact for the Private Brand portfolio within Global Merchandising. The incumbent will apply passion for product stewardship to help expand our portfolio of responsibly sourced, innovative, and efficient eco-products that help our customers live more sustainably at home.

Serves as the primary connection point to Corporate Sustainability and represents Private Brand interests in goal setting and program execution.

  • Drives all activities in Private Brand product categories to support Lowe’s goal to reach Net-Zero Emissions by 2050.
  • Evaluates the sustainability characteristics of the Private Brand product categories to identify the most critical factors for each category.
  • Collaborates with best-in-class industry experts and our suppliers on sustainability best practices.
  • Engages with 3rd party service providers to facilitate benchmarking, educational services, and sustainability certifications.
  • Ensures the company’s adherence to FTC guidelines for making effective sustainability claims, including validating third-party certifications (GRS, RCS, FSC, etc.) · Ensures successful execution of responsibilities to enhance the company’s branding efforts and
    integrate sustainability elements into Global Merchandising’s Private Brand strategy.
  • Leads a small team to execute key projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Lowe’s Corporate Sustainability team, builds, implements, and maintains a Sustainability program for Private Brands that supports Lowe’s Corporate Sustainability goals and commitments.
  • Supports and balances Lowe’s business goals while mitigating company risk associated with compliance with US requirements and applicable Global Sustainability Standards related to the Lowe’s Private Brand product portfolio.
  • Provides partnership and guidance across Global Merchandising on sustainable packaging materials, product design/materials, and end-of-life disposal best practices/methodology.
  • Creates and provides training and communication to internal teams and suppliers on Sustainability goals and expectations on how they meet those goals (IE., Standing up and executing an Eco badge program)
  • Prioritizes and operationalizes Sustainability goals into actionable tasks for global Private Brand teams & suppliers (IE., Utilization of Sustainable Buying Guides & setting up strategic factory sustainability goals)
  • Research recommends and assists suppliers in obtaining appropriate certifications to increase the number of sustainable products available to our customers.
  • Helps Private Brand suppliers in overcoming any barriers in achieving sustainability goals, timelines, or needs that align with our public commitments.
  • Responsible for drafting and partnering with legal to validate appropriate packaging/marketing claims that meet FTC requirements regarding Sustainability, and especially Recyclability claims (product, package, manufacturing materials)
  • Develops a process and drives to verify certifications associated with recyclability as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related sciences
  • 6 Years of Experience with programs in the retail industry, including a diverse range of soft and hardline consumer products
  • 5 Years of Experience supporting the retail environment
  • 4 Years of Project management experience, leading and supporting multiple disparate projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 Years of Experience with leading people and processes, effective networking, and clear communication.
  • 5 Years Leading teams.
  • 4 Years of Direct experience with 3rd party sustainability certifications
