The Creative Designer will deliver world-class creative solutions for packaging label design. This includes brand-level design, line extensions and maintenance projects. The Creative Designer must consistently deliver on the project scope, design brief, packaging specifications, project timeline and the integrity of the Private Brands portfolio and strategy. The Creative Designer will practice effective collaboration and communication with team members, internal clients, leadership, and 3rd party creative partners. Under the leadership of the Design Manager, partners with Private Brand Management team to deliver a world-class design that meets the strategy and positioning (i.e. visual identity and design architecture) of every brand in the portfolio. This position is an individual contributor that executes packaging label design under the supervision of the Design Manager and based on the strategy provided by the Private Brands Manager.
Recipe for Success – What’s “in-store” for the role
- Independently develop high-quality package designs that are consistent with the brand positioning strategy and meet the communication objectives outlined in the design brief
- Seek visionary solutions in the creative design process to support brand strategies and adhere to brand standards and style guidelines
- Research national/private brand competitors regarding designs and merchandising to formulate relevant and strategic visual solutions
- Effectively collaborate with both internal team members and leadership, and outside 3rd party partners and vendors
- Successful comprehension of project scope, design brief, business strategy and other instructional material from key stakeholders
- Solid understanding of Adobe Creative Suite
- Capability of producing realistic design packaging mockups within Adobe Illustrator, for presentation purposes
- Possess strong presentation and public speaking skills to successfully interact with and present to internal clients, as well as external partners
- Will manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept to completion, while adhering to tight timelines
- Provide professional and strategic Art Direction
- Collaboration with internal production design team to provide direction for:
- Line Extensions
- Brand Maintenance
- New Brand/Category Concepts
- Collaboration with outside vendors (photo studio, illustrators, etc.) within standard process and timeline
- Creation of photography shoot books
- On-set remote art direction of photoshoots
- Manage multiple projects to increase speed to market without sacrificing quality or accuracy
The Essentials In Your Cart – The required ingredients
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic or commercial art, a similar degree or equivalent job experience
- Minimum of 5 years in the graphic design industry/field
- Minimum of 2 years experience designing food or food-related products preferred
Extra Spices – What you should bring to the table
- Proven success designing packaging label design across a portfolio of brands
- Proficient conceptual skills in creative design, layout, copy fitting, text treatment; digital as well as manual
- Proficiency in managing design project development, including tracking timelines, mandatory copy requirements, and pre-press guidelines
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in design application and print production
- Hands-on proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) mandatory in a Macintosh environment
- Strong understanding of all print processes (lithography, flexography, digital, dry offset, rotogravure)
- Proficient with Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 preferred
- Effectively communicate to various levels of management
- Ability to work within a team-centered environment
