Waitrose: The floral cheese that’s a must-have for Christmas cheeseboards

Waitrose has launched an Alp Blossom cheese that’s as pretty as it is tasty. The cheese is adorned in a special wrapping made from edible alpine flowers, making it a show-stopping centerpiece for a Christmas cheeseboard.

The cheese, which has a rich and nutty taste with a luxuriously smooth, creamy texture, is produced in the beautiful alpine meadows in Germany, with cows’ milk from two Brown Swiss herds.

But what makes this cheese so special is its stunning colorful appearance. It’s wrapped in organic edible flowers from the alpine meadows including dried cornflowers, rose petals, calendula, lavender, and herbs, making it look as though it’s been sprinkled with pretty confetti.

Alice Shrubsall, cheese buyer for Waitrose says “The trend for more unusual and flavored cheese has been growing among our customers who love to experiment when it comes to flavors and varieties. Our shoppers come to our counters for inspiration, innovation, and unique products that can’t be found anywhere else, as well as expertise from our Partners, so this cheese is the perfect new addition.

“The cheese has a really unique and delicate aroma to match its pretty appearance, but packs a punch when it comes to flavor. Cheese is often the finalé of a special meal and this stunning Alp Blossom will be a real showstopper on the cheeseboard this Christmas.”

Matured for six months, the cheese is launching just in time for the festive season. For the perfect pairings on a board, combine with Lincolnshire Poacher; a light brie; Colston Bassett Blue Stilton, and fruits such as grapes or pears.

Alp Blossom Cheese is available on Waitrose cheese counters at £28 per kg
