Committed to more sustainable and responsible fashion, French retailer Carrefour committed that by 2030, 100% of the products in their TEX private brand will be made of sustainable and traceable natural raw materials.
The commitments are now displayed in-store in new “responsible TEX” signage: stickers, photos, educational posters, etc.
Carrefour’s actions include:
100% sustainable and traceable natural raw materials by 2030
The origin of the raw materials is attested by certified and recognized labels (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, FSC). Today, nearly a thousand references from the private brand TEX textile range already guarantee that the raw materials are durable and traceable, from the cotton field to the store, including the production site and transport. Carrefour wants to go further and is committed to ensuring that by 2030, 100% of its textile products comply with this strict environmental requirement.
50% organic cotton by 2025
50% of TEX cotton products will be organic by 2025. The development of organic products has been one of TEX’s first areas of work. To go further, the brand has created a sector guaranteeing certified organic cotton, without GMOs, without toxic dyes or allergens, and is also committed to the fair remuneration of producers.
Preserve water
TEX is committed to less polluting processes, consuming much less water, energy and chemicals. The brand has thus adopted the “Dope Dyed” technique in the “Micro Concept” women’s underwear line. Since the start of the 2020 school year, TEX has also been offering jeans for the whole family whose manufacturing requires less water and contributes to reducing its impact on the environment.
Use recycled materials
To preserve the planet’s resources and limit its environmental impact, TEX promotes and integrates the use of recycled materials in the manufacture of its products.
Preserving our forests
100% of fibers from wood such as viscose, used in TEX products, will be produced without deforestation by 2022.
Respect animal welfare
TEX is committed to ensuring that 100% of its cashmere comes from a traced quality chain guaranteeing animal welfare by 2021.
Reduce the use of plastic in packaging
This commitment concerns both food and non-food products. Today, the in-depth work carried out by the Carrefour teams has saved 255 tons of paper and 86 tons of plastic, over 2019-2020. To achieve this, TEX has reduced the number of labels and reduced their sizes and weights. Plastic packaging on various types of products has already been abolished.
