This Black History Month, Kohl’s is helping customers see themselves reflected in Retail Brands (private brands) by offering an assortment of products with designs and messages that celebrate Black culture and history, unity, allyship, and authenticity.
The “Black History, Black Future” spotlight collection was designed by Kohl’s Diversity Design Council to ensure authentic representation of our diverse customers and features an assortment of graphic tops for the family, totes, baseball caps, plush throws, pillows, candles, and more. The products are available online at Kohls.com and in 600 stores nationwide.
Kohl’s Diversity Design Council, a group of associates that work together to develop, design and curate culturally relevant products that reflect diversity, is committed to driving authenticity in the design, art and curation of our product. The Diversity Design Council provides associates with an opportunity to share the experiences of their community and culture through art and design, and in turn, helps Kohl’s create a more diverse, inclusive, supportive experience for all our customers.
“We are on a journey to make sure all customers feel connected to Kohl’s,” said Katherine Finder, Kohl’s senior vice president of product design, and leader of Kohl’s Diversity Design Council. “We want our customers to see themselves in our products and we are committed to creating more connections with our Black customers. By inviting our Black designers and artists to create our Black History Month product, we ensure authenticity and celebrate the amazing talent we have in house. Additionally, we are partnering with Black-owned businesses to further amplify and celebrate the Black community. We’re excited to share our Black History Month collection with the Kohl’s community across the country.”
“I was inspired by us. I wanted to aesthetically represent as many people as possible because we’re all essential in unifying and strengthening the community,” said Electa Royal, assistant artist at Kohl’s and member of Kohl’s Diversity Design Council. “Kohl’s has become a place of pride for me. This company has provided opportunities that have empowered me to become a more educated, caring and confident professional in and out of the workplace. I will always use these skills and others to better myself and my community. I am proud to say I work at Kohl’s.”
Additionally, in celebration of Black History Month, Kohl’s is partnering with black-founded and black-owned business Roam Loud to bring a one-of-a-kind, diverse apparel collection to our shoppers. Founded by Toyin Omisore, the lifestyle brand features and celebrates brown skin at the forefront and not an afterthought. Roam Loud is a call to action to unlock inner freedom and independence. Specializing in premium, feel-good athleisure and activewear, the brand encourages others to move through the world on their own terms.
“For me, Black History Month means taking intentional time to reflect, celebrate, and learn the stories of Black people in America from platforms that amplify Black voices,” said Toyin Omisore, founder of Roam Loud. “I am excited about Roam Loud’s partnership with Kohl’s because I believe it’s a fresh approach. Kohl’s provides a well crafted platform for emerging brands to showcase and connect to new and existing customers that are visiting stores. It’s an initiative that I could not wait to be a part of.”
This February, Kohl’s is also celebrating Black History Month with a special Kohl’s Cares collection dedicated to Black authors and stories for children and families. Further showcasing Kohl’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, this collection of diverse authors will feature celebrity authors such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Grace Byers.
